Even though I have not responded to an MTBoS Mission since #2, I swear I've been paying attention! (And getting a lot out of it!)
This week's mission on "regrouping" is particularly appropriate for me. The work of delving into the MTBoS is definitely overwhelming, and my time to reflect on my learning has fallen to the wayside. So, this post is my attempt to get caught up. I'd like to share a few examples of what I've read, heard, and experienced on the MTBoS these past few weeks, but the following is only the tip of the iceberg.

Having a list of collaborative sites is great! I had already run across most of these sites during my own meandering, but there were a couple of new ones to add to my bookmarks and Feedly account. There's so much to gain from these sites, and what impresses me most is the willingness of those involved to take the time to share what they're doing so we can all move forward together, sharing and offering productive feedback. Love it! To pick just one from the list, I plan to start using Estimation 180 this card marking and I'm really excited to see how it goes!

Several topics from the Global Math Department look interesting to me, but I do my "interneting" on my iphone in the middle of the night while I'm up with my 5 month old. So, (darn you, Adobe Flashplayer!) I have not watched a conference yet.
I did, however, use my Stitcher account for the first time ever to listen to an interview with @cheesemonkeysf on Infinite Tangents. (Don't worry, I kept the volume low so I didn't disturb the baby) :)
I really enjoyed the part of the discussion on getting the kids to not be afraid to make mistakes. This is a constant struggle in my class as well. I'm curious about the reference to donut points...anybody know what this is??? Hey, I suppose I could tweet her with my question! (Add to my to-do list)

Participating in a Twitter chat was one mission I had already accomplished on my own. Since signing up for Twitter, mission #2, I have been watching, and occasionally tweeting, the #msmathchat on Mondays. Really enjoying the conversation, still too intimidated to participate much. But that's my issue! I know I'll get more out of the MTBoS (if that's even possible) once I become more if a contributor.

And that brings me to this week, woo hoo! My attempt at organization is to email my work account when I find something I want to do, bookmark interesting sites, and try to keep up using Feedly. This system has been working in general for me, however, once at work I like to get my emails organized and get things filed away by grade level and unit of study, unfortunately I'm about 90 emails behind right now. Yikes!
That to-do list seems to grow at a faster rate than I'm checking things off...is there a math problem in that?...add it to the to-do list!
I am right there with you Bethany! Thanks for diving in!
ReplyDeleteI can not imagine sending myself all the useful things I find… oh wait, I do! I have got to find a better way. I end up 90 e-mails behind each day, which can easily create a big problem, not just a math problem! I'm trying this whole virtual filing cabinet thing and I'm hoping I can keep up with it!
ReplyDeleteI'm an iphone/mac user, too. and this whole no-adobe flash is killer!
Let me know if you find a solution, but good luck on organizing and keeping up with your 5-month old!
Thanks for sharing. I can't keep up with emails, I prefer dropbox as I can do it on any computer or my phone. I like that I can access it any where and put things in a folder immediately. Good luck with your organizing,
ReplyDeleteI get so overwhelmed with lots of e-mails too! I've started trying to send things to EverNote with the web clipper and tagging it in the moment. That seems to be working for me at the moment.
