In response Kate Nowak's post:
What got me hooked?
Please don't kick me out of the MTBoS, but I actually got started via Teachers Pay Teachers. Let me explain... I had just been put on bed rest in February of this year. I was in need of some last-minute activity ideas for the random subs they were throwing into my classroom. A friend had told me about TPT, so I decided to check it out. I found some pretty interesting materials that were free so I continued going through the available activities. I inadvertently ran across one of the seller's math blogs. I had never been on a math blog before. I found some of the materials very interesting to look through and so I continued googling for other math blogs. That's when I came across this post. Megan Hayes-Golding was writing about the difference in philosophy between TPT and the MTBoS. I had no idea what any of this meant. So I did some further googling and discovered the Mathtwitterblogosphere. This discovery soon became an obsession. I found people like Sarah Rubin and Sarah Hagan and decided to start my own ISN this year. I discovered virtual filing cabinets like Sam Shah's and that quickly moved to Dan Meyer's three act math. I have found myself in the middle of an endless web ever since then. And I am loving it!
Since then I have participated in Explore the MTBoS and learned so much. But I know I still have an incredible amount to learn. And I can't wait!
The MTBoS has significantly changed my teaching this year and I encourage anyone who will listen to get involved. I'm still pretty much just a lurker, but I'm working on getting out of my comfort zone!
